Commute — to exchange one place for another
Commute defines a transition — an exchange from one state to another. For the urbanite this is a daily experience as we travel from home to work and back. It’s a journey in an in-between space — a landscape in motion as we negotiate our way along familiar routes that transport us from one location to another.
A London Commute is just one of these journeys — an east west trajectory — from Hackney, via Dalston, Canonbury, through Highbury and along Upper Street in Islington. And then onward to Euston Road and to Marylebone in West London. These routes follow ancient pathways through the city,
At times spaces along our journey are populated but at other times almost deserted of human presence. Along the bus route are a series of familiar landmarks and crossroads that orientate our location in the city.
A constant companion is the red of the London bus — a marker anchoring us to London and providing a unique viewpoint upon the streetscape that unfolds below.
